Obituary of Richard B Apgar
Richard “Spike” Apgar, age 88, of Clinton NJ, died peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Brakeley Care Center in Phillipsburg, NJ. Richard was born March 14, 1930 in Hampton, NJ. He is the son of the late Bernard and the late Beatrice (Berry) Apgar.

He was a 1947 graduate of Hampton High School and served in the US Army and the Army Active Reserves receiving an honorable discharge in 1956. Spike was an auto mechanic and Owner of Apgars Garage in Hampton NJ retiring in 1990.
He served as President of the Apgar Family Association and President of the Hampton High School Alumni Association. Spike was a charter member of the Hampton Emergency Squad.
He was married to Barbara Apgar for 51 years until her passing 2001.
Surviving are his two devoted daughters; Patricia Mathews Epstein and husband Norm of Philadelphia PA and Deborah Nelson and husband Mike of Sequim, WA, two grandsons, Adam Epstein of Worcester, MA and Mark Epstein of Boston, MA, three sisters, Marybelle Hoffman, Joanne Kotch and Judy Neustadt and many nieces and nephews. His sister, Jean Spearance, preceded him in death.
Also surviving is his companion, Bette Heft of Belvidere, NJ.
In retirement, he served as the chase crew for In Flight Balloon Adventures and was an avid gardener and enjoyed all types of auto and motorcycle racing and aeronautics.
He was always a jokester at heart.
