Obituary of Christopher James Petras

Christopher James Petras, age 32, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 at home.  Born on November 22, 1990 in New Brunswick, NJ, he was the son of Robert and the late Lorraine (nee Marino) Petras.

Chris was a 2009 graduate of North Hunterdon High School.  Most recently he worked as a foreman for Rich's Tree Service located in Pittstown, NJ. Chris married his beloved wife, Daniela Santacruz, on December 5, 2020.

Chris was a true outdoorsman, from his early days testing the limits of dirt bikes and ATV’s, to his training in commercial diving, to his work as an arborist.  He also loved to snowboard, and was always up for a physical challenge.  Chris loved to cook, too. If he was stuck indoors, you’d probably find him in the kitchen working on his latest dish. 

Chris had the unique gift to make new friends wherever he went.  Everyone that knew him will remember his infectious smile and laugh, his undeniable charm, and his unwavering loyalty to his friends.  He enjoyed life to the fullest, and was always there to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Chris is survived by his wife, Daniela; his father, Bob; his brother, Rob; his mother-in-law, Maris Nilsa Titistar; his sister-in-law Jennifer Santacruz and husband Diego Daza; his sister-in-law Diana Santacruz; and his brother-in-law Juan David Santacruz.  Chris was predeceased by his mother, Lorrie.

Friends and relatives may gather with Chris’s family on Thursday, January 19, 2023 From 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ 08801.
