I lived 3 doors down from Joan during junior high and high school and my older sister hung out with her all the time.
I remember her mom cooking those steaks in the broiler for dinner, her dad's train set upstairs.
Just hanging out, talking i her room.
Miss you, Joan, hope you are with your loved ones again,
Denise

Today is August 29th 2010 and just yesterday I learned of Joan's passing. Today I am sad. Joan was my girl friend during her high school senior year as well as early college years. She was a dear friend back then. And actually so was Stu Black. Stu and I were great friends during the same time. Stu and I played guitar together, and generally had a lot of fun. I learned of Stu's passing just a few days ago. For years I thought I had heard that Joan and Stu had found each other. That was nice. I liked hearing about that. I'm sure they met through me.
They've been gone for a while I know, but at the moment I am swept by the memories from long ago.
Joan and Stu, I love you both. You will be remembered for as long as I am here.
Your old friend Rick Nadolny

Joan was an incredible woman with a huge amount of compassion and integrity. She helped me sell my house twice and also helped my parents sell their home. She had a smile that could light any room.

It is was a great shock when I learned of Joan's death. She was by far the nicest and most thoughtful person I have dealt with in our industry. I only learned of her death today. I send my prays to her family, she was just such a warm helpful person. She will be missed.

I am soooo thankful I had the opportunity to get to know Joan. She inspired me in so many ways the last 4 years. I will miss her very much and the cheerful way she would say my name when we meet. I loved chatting with her about our pets, our past and listening to her excitement after a trip with family/friends. I would like to share this message I came across. I can’t help but to think of Joan when I read it: “Cancer is limited . . . it cannot cripple love, shatter hope, corrode faith, eat away peace, destroy confidence, shut out memories, silence courage, invade the soul, reduce eternal life, quench the spirit, or lessen the power of the Resurrection.” She lived this and more . . . We may have lost a special friend on this earth, but she left us much more than her friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. She will forever be in my heart. (Till we meet again Joan)

For many years,Joan and Stu were in the Valley Players with us. Joan was such a sweet and open person, sharing her house, joining in the fun and work of putting on plays. She loved her home, and her husband. We spent many evenings sitting around singing and laughing. We have always cherished the memories of those times.

We met Joan several years ago after moving to the Overlook development. She was so warm and friendly, just what we needed after moving to a new area!
Joan became our realator but became our friend as well.
We will miss her.

Joan and Stu lived next door to my parents (Mary and Bailey Case) in Watchung and I got to know them whenever my family and I visited from SC. I remember their collies, fun times swimming in their pool, Joan's artistic and craft abilities, fun times (I can hear her laugh) and their friendship to my parents. She fought a long and courageous battle, and it saddens me to learn of her death.

To my dearest friend, Joan. I truly believe that in this walk of life, God brings people in to our lives for a reason. I am so thankful that God brought us together and our lives intertwined leaving us with a treasured friendship. Through the years, you have helped me grow in so many ways. You have been a constant and admirable example. Your courage amazes me! I am in awe of your strength & will. You were always there for me. You understood me. I am forever grateful for that. Thank you for helping me through our family's tragedy this past year. It was the most difficult thing I have ever had to endure & your love & support helped me remain strong. You stood by my side like a fearless bulldog, yet with the love, kindness & understanding of one of God's most divine servants. We both shared a love for angels. I realize now, that you were an angel in my life. And now, Joanie you are the loveliest guardian angel I could ever hope for. Your fighting spirit, your "devilish pranks", our over the desk puppet shows, our rummy games, your love of life...these are just many things I will always remember about you. But above and beyond all are your devotion and love. You are one classy lady, Joan Black! You will be missed. However, your spirit will live on in each and everyone of us that was fortunate enough to have known you. Thank you, Joan. You faught a good fight, girl. We are all so proud of you. You truly are amazing. You rest now in the loving arms of our father. As God said, " I will not forget you, I have carved you in the palm of my hand" I love you now & always! In God's peace, your friend, Karen
