Obituary of Peter "Pete" Pender

Peter Francis Pender, known to his family and friends as Pete, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the age 63. Pete was born in Marion Indiana on January 27, 1943. He was the son of the late Bernard and Mariclaire (Thewissen)Pender He has been living in Clinton for the past 33 years. He was previously lived in Warren Twp. and Cranford, NJ. He was a graduate of Cranford High School, were he was Team Captain and State Finalist for the 1961 Cranford Wrestling team and recipient of a Full Athletic Scholarship to Temple University. He served in the Army National Guard out of Westfield, NJ. Pete was the owner and operator of Clinton Canoe & Kayak and Penders Boathouse Grill in Clinton. His business was a Scouting shop, Hobby Shop, Boat Rental and Outdoor Restaurant. Pete was very active with the Boy Scouts. Being an Eagle Scout, he was a Lifetime Boy Scout Volunteer. He served as District Chairman of Boy Scouts of America and was the 2004 Round Table Commissioner of the Year. He was also a recipient of the Boy Scouts of America District Award of Merit. He served the Clinton Business Community both as a Business Owner and Volunteer for 20 years. He sponsored the Town of Clinton Fishing Derby and the Clinton Flag Day Celebration at Penders Boathouse. Most importantly he was a beloved Son, Husband, and Father. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 yrs., Dena of Clinton; His loving Children: Chad, Ryan and Todd Pender all from the Town of Clinton. His Dear mother: Mariclaire Pender of Seaford, DE His Dear Brothers: Mike Pender of Cranford, NJ; John Pender of Springfield, NJ and Bill Pender of Cambridge, MD Visiting Hours will be Monday, May 15, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm & 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. The funeral servie will be Tuesday, May 16 at 10:00 at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield following the service. In Lieu of flowers, family and friends may made donations in Pete Penders Memory to: their local Boy Scout Troop or the Boy Scouts of America Organization/ Central NJ Council, 4315 US Highway 1 South, Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852
