Dena and Boys...now young men. Distance cannot diminish the sadness felt upon learning of your loss of Pete..and your Dad. I still recall how you've all come through the tough times together and your pride and hard work in your first store "across the street". Please know that I've thought of you all so often since my Riverfield days and that my husband joins me in holding you in thought and prayers at this difficult time.

Dena - I was out of town but settled down to read the Democrat on Sunday morning at our Pocono home.
What a shock to read about Peter.
I'm glad I stopped to see you on my way home Sunday morning. Just to hold you in my arms. I am so, so sad. Peter was a wonderful man. He left us far, far too soon. He will be terribly missed by many, many people.
As I said to you, one day at a time. Also, hold on to all your precious memories of a wonderful life together.
Your loving customer(and friend),
Susan Kane

Dear Todd & The Pender Family:
So sorry to hear of your sudden loss. I will always remember Mr. Pender's congenial disposition towards me and the friends of Todd Pender who came by Clinton Kayak & Canoe to grab some grub or paddle around for a bit. He was always wearing a smile- even when the weather wasn't cooperating. I'll miss his familiar face when I come to visit. Todd, please don't hesitate to give me a buzz at anytime if you need anything for you or your family during this tough period. My family and I send our condolences. - Chip

Dena, Chad, Ryan, and Todd-
We were so very sorry to hear the news. Though we never spoke in great detail with Pete, his smile and his warm "hello" at the boathouse was always very uplifting.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. May God be with you at this difficult time.

Mrs. Pender, Todd, Ryan and Chad: I was shocked to hear the news. What a wonderful! Man he was. Although the Bagelsmith has been closed for 6 years now there is not a day that goes bye that I (we) don't think about all the wonderful people we had come to know like Pete and your family. Dear Deedee:
Linda and I are currently away from home but yesterday we received the sad news about Pete from Heino. Although we are unable to be with you, we are thinking about Pete, you and your family.
So often I think about the good times we all had together back in Cranford.
Pete was a good man, husband, father, son and friend. I regret that we didn't stay in closer touch through the years except for attending all of those memorable Class Reunions.
Linda joins me in sending you our heartfelt condolences and know that you will be comforted by all the good memories of your life with Pete.
I'm so sorry that we can't be with you at this time but hope we can get together in New Jersey this Summer.
Sincerely,
Fred Ward

Dear Dee and Family: I'm not at a loss for words too often but this is certainly one of them. I will always remember Pete as a smiling face who dearly loved his family and also as one of the classiest gentlemen I had the pleasure of knowing. He will forever be watching over all of you with a smile on his face and perhaps a whiskey sour in his hand. My thoughts are with you all.

Peter was such a Gentleman in the true sense of the word and an Eagle Scout to the core. The Hunterdon Arrowhead District, Central NJ Council BSA, has truly lost a dear friend, supporter and comrade in arms. The Entire HAD Scouting Family is diminished by his passing.

I am a good friend of Chris DaSilva, a friend of Chad's. I adore Clinton and have shopped in the Pender's store many times. I was at the last band performance last August. Chad knew my daughter Allyson very briefly when she and Chris were together. When I lost my daughter Allyson in May '03, Mrs. Pender was so nice to me when I came into the store and told her about Allyson. She told Chad, and I was able to reconnect with my dear friend, Chris. The Penders always appeared to be an incredibly generous, kind, and loving family. I was frankly envious that they all shared each other's company at a time when my life was fractured by the death of my daughter on a day in May (26th). Great losses find their way into all of our lives. At year 3 in the process, I object to the term "move on". It is the wrong term. We "evolve" as we reinvent ourselves and our lives. Our loved one lives even more closely to us, in our hearts. As we make future choices, we are inspired by the love we shared with our lost family member. We are sensitive to the losses of others and commit ourselves to reaching out. We embrace those around us daily and love "in the moment" for that is all that is guaranteed.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Pender family.
