Obituary of John Joseph Steger

John Joseph Steger, 67, of Pittstown, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, December 1, 2013. John was born in Dunkirk, NY to Joseph and Monica Steger. He received his PhD in Chemistry from Cornell University in 1972 and worked for Exxon, Engelhard, and finally BASF until 2010 when he retired. John was a loving husband to Stevi of Ithaca, NY, a devoted father to Jennifer, Kate and Matthew, and an adoring "Gramps" to Poppy and Calla. He was generous, kind and adventurous to all those who had the pleasure of knowing him and his spirit will forever live in our hearts. John is survived by his wife Stevi; his three children Jennifer, Kate and Matthew; his son-in-law Nick; his two grandchildren Poppy and Calla; his sister Ann Smith of Rochester, NY; and his trusted companion Sierra the dog. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation, Designation: Operating Room equipment, Suite 202, 9100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ or www.mskcc.org/giving. Both will be applied to curing cancer. A gathering for family and friends will be held Saturday, December 14 from 2-6 pm at John and Stevi's home in Pittstown.
