Obituary of Robert Roy Mahoney
Robert Mahoney, 78, of Pattenburg, NJ, passed away peacefully at Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington on November 18, 2013. He was born February 6, 1935 in Elkton, Maryland. Following his mother's death, he was raised by his grandparents, T. Roy Miller and Margaret Krauss Miller.
Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Suzanne Logan Mahoney, son Steve and wife Gretchen, of Newark, DE, daughter Lisa, of Clinton, NJ, and son Matt and wife Gayle of Washington, NJ. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Andy, Emily, Kristen, Thomas, Brian, Christopher, and Julia, and one great-grandson, Greyson. He is also survived by his twin brother Richard and his wife, Beverly of Elkton, MD, sister in law, Joy Mahoney of Myrtle Beach, SC, half sisters, Ann Holt, of Elkton, MD, Linda Scheaner of Oregon, and Janice (Tim) Fazenbaker, of Wantage, NJ. He is predeceased by his mother, Emily Miller Mahoney, his father Harry Hanson Mahoney and half brothers, Harry, Jr. and Allan Mahoney.
Bob was an EMT and member of the Pattenburg Rescue Squad from 1979-2005, serving as captain for many years. He was a career employee of AT&T, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Pattenburg United Methodist Church, serving on the choir and on the church council. Bob sang with the Hunterdon Harmonizers Barbershop Chorus. He played bass guitar and hammered dulcimer.
Bob and Sue are originally from Cecil County Maryland, and Bob leaves many friends and family in New Jersey, Maryland, and Ft. Myers, Florida, where they vacationed for many winters.
Bob's Life Celebration will include a Memorial Gathering at Martin Funeral Home, Clinton, NJ, on Thursday, November 21st. Family and friends are invited to call from 7-9 pm. A service of celebration will begin at 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Pattenburg United Methodist Church (587 Main St., Pattenburg, Asbury, NJ 08802) Pattenburg Rescue Squad (590 Rte 614, Asbury, NJ 08802) in Bob's honor.
