Obituary of Richard D Dieterly
Richard D. Dieterly, age 82, of Flemington, NJ, formerly of Clinton, NJ, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at his home in Flemington. Richard was born July 29, 1934 in Zainesville, OH. He is the son of the late Donald Charles and the late Louise (Fisher) Dieterly.
Richard Dieterly grew up and attended high school in Middletown, Ohio. He attended Yale University graduating magna cum laude. He was awarded a Juris Doctor Degree from Yale Law School in 1960. Uncertain whether to pursue a legal career, he worked in the Admissions Department of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and taught history at a private high school in Florida.
He moved to Clinton, NJ upon taking a position with the law firm Gebhardt & Kiefer, where he worked for 55 years. He served on several township and planning boards in Hunterdon, Morris, and Warren County. He also had served on the North Hunterdon School Board and Hunterdon Art Museum Board.
Richard loved the arts and was a long-time supporter of many museums and music foundations. He was an avid traveler and outdoor enthusiast. He also played the baritone horn in Chester Barclay’s band that used to perform regularly at the old Clinton Theater.
He is survived by his children Paul Dieterly and Anna Dieterly, her husband Michael Reilly, three grandchildren, and his two sisters Mary Ellen Georoff and Beth Barnes. Also surviving Dick is his companion of seventeen years, Anne Geller.
The family will be holding calling hours on Monday, July 17 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. In lieu of flowers donations in honor of Dick may be made through IN MEMORY OF for the Hunterdon Art Museum at www.inmemoryof-memorial.org
