Obituary of Jean A. Messig
Jean A. Messig, age 90, of Clinton NJ, died Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ. Jean was born August 20, 1926 in Clinton, NJ and was a life-long resident. She is the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Amelia (Krupski) Pelchyk. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard and a daughter, Eileen Hyman.
She was employed by Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton for 30 years as a Corrections Officer. After retiring, Jean enjoyed working part-time at the Clinton Shop Rite for many years where she could socialize with local residents.
Jean was a member of the Clinton Fire Dept. ladies auxiliary and was very active helping at all the banquet dinners and pancake breakfasts.
She is survived by one daughter: Kathy Mathews and husband Jim of Pittstown, NJ and one son: Scott Messig and wife Helga of High Bridge, N. J.; four grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer, Jason and Jeremy.
An avid gardener, Jean loved nothing more than being outside working in her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She was known by her friends and neighbors as the "tomato lady".
As per Jean's wishes all service will be held privately under the care of Martin Funeral Home, Clinton NJ.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clinton Fire Department in her name.
