Jerily, John and Chris (and Jerily's family too), we are so heartbroken over the passing of Uncle Jim, and your loss above all. I know we DeWorkens are terrible about keeping up with each other, but we really appreciated the efforts you and Jim made, Jerily, to come see us in VA. It was so awesome to see him with Dad and their relationship as brothers.
What an amazing man and what an amazing life. He was a blessing to my dad, my family and so many others that he touched in his life. What a dude!
We are praying for God's peace and comfort over y'all each and every day. Wish we could be there with you, but know that our love for you is there.
Pete, Lorie, Bonnie, Sophis and Quinne

Jim was always the consummate gentlemen and ultimate professional. His support and welcomed advice to me was instrumental in helping us establish the Morris County Magnet School system which is now one of the most highly regarded in the United States. His further commitment to the board of the Urban League of Morris County also speaks well of his commitment to social justice and community. Jim's life was well lived and to Jerily and the rest of the family, please accept my heartfelt condolences.

I was sorrowed to learn of Mr. DeWorken's passing. He hired me to work as a school counselor at The Morris County School of Technology, in 2001. I was grateful for the career opportunity, was encouraged by his management and director as may superintendent. Previously, I was graduated from the Morris County Vocational District's School of Practical Nursing, Later, as an alumnus, and employed as a middle school educator, Jim mentioned my achievement as a positive reflection of the district when interviewed for a cable television's educational programming. He was always a gentleman, and treated me with respect. His manner of leadership is not often seen in today's world of work, and he truly did care about his students and staff!

Jim was fun to be with. I remember one chilly weekend in Cape May. Jerily and Jim were staying at a Bed & Breakfast. My husband Billy and I, along with my sister Joanne were going to meet them for drinks at an historic, huge Victorian hotel with an enormous front porch. Jer and Jim had just finished a jitney tour of Cape May. Did I mention how uncommonly cold the day was? We gave up the idea of drinks on the porch so Jer and Jim could thaw out. My sister, Jerily and I commandeered a sweet spot in the antique filled lobby. We were just settling in with our drinks when in walks Jim with a platter of hot wings and blue cheese dressing. Now we're talking "party." How sweet. The time flew by with laughter and conversation but the memory of a wonderful time remains.
His thoughtfulness and kindness will be missed. May all the sweet memories of Jim remain forever in our hearts.
Love and prayers,
Susan

To know Jim was to love him, he was the hardest and toughest working man I have ever known. All I know is…you don’t pull on superman cape, you don’t spit into the wind, you don’t pull the mask of the Lone Ranger and you don’t mess around with Jim! There will never be another Jim DeWorken
To my dearest friend Jim, I want you to know that I will miss you immensely and I know you’re in heaven smiling down on us, I pray that you will be one of the 5 people I meet when I get to heaven.
To Jim's family, I give my deepest condolences and I pray that peace will soon reign over you knowing that someday you will see him again, he is truly one of God's angels and we were truly blessed to have known him.

I worked with Mr. DeWorken for many years in New Brunswick. For a period of time he was in charge of the art department as well. He was also respectful and a gentleman. I will never forget the time I was hanging decorations for an event and he insisted I stop because I was pregnant. He took his jacket off and started hanging them for me. You should be proud of all he accomplished, He gave the children of New Brunswick an opportunity and for that I am sure many will be grateful for. My condolences to the family.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Jim. A stunning reminder of how swiftly time passes. But Jim packed a lot into a very productive life--a wonderful success with career and family. And while he may have suffered numerous physical setbacks in recent years, he was always good company with his singular generosity, ready wit and wry sense of humor.
I knew Jim for approximately 23 years, meeting him shortly after Susan and I got married and right before Jim and Jerily made their way to the alter. Susan and Jerily have been close friends since grammar school and the four of us had many fun filled times together.
I'm very thankful I got to spend a delightful Sunday with Jim at the beginning of the baseball season. While the girls were doing their thing, Jim and I watched a ballgame at a local restaurant and regaled the bartender and an unsuspecting patron!
He leaves us better for having known him, and our prayers will always be with him and his family.
Love,
Bill & Susan
