Obituary of Susan Carol Duffy
Susan Carol Duffy, born December 10th, 1952, to Walter and Marilyn Reinhardt, took her vibe to the other side on December 30th 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Susan grew up in Garwood, NJ, with her parents, Marilyn and Walter Reinhardt, along with her three brothers Johnny, Todd, and Scott. She graduated from Arthur L. Johnson High School in 1970, with her senior yearbook stating that she was “headed” places.
Susan had a passion for creativity and working with her hands and enjoyed working in the floral business for over 30 years, owning and operating two business, Country Flowers in Califon, NJ, and Krause’s Flowers in Clinton, as well as working for the Flower Basket in Clinton, and Michael’s in Flemington. Susan would often employ the free help of her kids around Valentine’s Day, delivering flowers for her and telling them it was a “learning experience.”
Susan will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Casey Masterson, his wife Denise, and their two daughters Rylan and Harper. Megan Bruton, her husband Pete, and their two children, Harris and Casey. Patrick Duffy, his wife Melissa, and their two daughters, Rylee and Marilyn. Susan showed them all how love, grace, and patience are three of the most important things to have in this life. A sense of humor doesn’t hurt, either.
Susan was married to Michael Duffy, originally of Clark, for 42 years, originally meeting in elementary school, and reconnecting in the years after high school. Their marriage showed their children what true love really is, endlessly devoted to each other and to their family.
After moving to High Bridge in 2000 and retiring shortly afterwards, Susan enjoyed going to the pool with her “pool girls” and spending time with her 6 grandchildren, who she adored more than anything else. Taking on the role of “Nana” was not only natural for her, it was embraced and enjoyed every minute that she could - never missing a practice, a game, or a recital of any kind. Nana was always there for her babies, cheering them all on, louder and more passionately than anybody else.
Susan had a soft spot for Vermont, after traveling there with her family in the 1950’s, she continued the tradition of Vermont trips with her family and friends her entire life, spending hours in the sun on the shores of Lake Dunmore, enjoying “little dips” and catching sunnies off the dock. With her trusty pool noodle in hand, she never felt more free and closer to the earth than when she was in those waters.
Susan will be truly missed by all those that had the chance to know her. She will be dearly missed by her husband, children, and grandchildren, all of whom were the lucky ones, able to steal time from the rest of the world and spend it with her. We will forever be grateful for that time spent.
Predeceased by her parents: Walter and Marilyn Reinhardt, of Westfield, NJ.
Surviving in this now slightly less colorful world are her three brothers: John Reinhardt, of Washington State, Todd Reinhardt, of Tom’s River, NJ, and Scott Reinhardt, of New Ringgold, PA.
Also her children and their spouses, Casey and Denise Masterson, Megan and Pete Bruton, and Patrick and Melissa Duffy are all now responsible in the job of stepping in for Nana with her cure all for any injury or sickness: Neosporin and Vick’s Vapor Rub (the latter being applied directly under the nose.)
The kids lucky enough to be able to call her Nana include Rylan and Harper Masterson, of Basking Ridge, Harris and Casey of Hampton, and Rylee Washburn and Marilyn Duffy of Bloomsbury, NJ.
