Obituary of Virginia Konefal

Virginia “Ginny” Konefal, aged 82, passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, FL, with her family by her side on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Born in New York City, Ginny spent her early years in Fair Lawn, NJ, and later raised her family in Clinton Township before moving to Whiting in 2010.

A lifelong lover of books, travel, and teaching, Ginny dedicated her professional life to education and inspired many young minds. She worked as a library media specialist at Terrill Middle School in Scotch Plains and North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, and also shared her passion for learning as an adjunct professor at Rutgers University. Alongside her dear friends Barbara and Muriel, Ginny traveled extensively, embracing new adventures and experiences in faraway places.

Ginny is survived by her four children and their spouses, Reenie (Jon) Jackson, Kathy (Shannon) Tillman, Keith (Felicia) Konefal, and Kerry (Russ) Verhovec, as well as her cherished 10 grandchildren and a new granddaughter-in-law. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 22 years, Alan “Buzzy” Konefal, in 1986, and her parents, Bill and Lee Bell.

Memorial visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 10:30–11:30 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home, located at 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ 08809.  Mass of Christion Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, located at 59 Main Street in High Bridge, NJ. Interment of her ashes will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton, NJ.

Ginny’s family and friends will forever remember her for her warmth, adventurous spirit, and unwavering dedication to education.
