Obituary of William John Minick, Jr.
William John Minick, Jr., 82 years, of Whippany, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024. William was born on June 5, 1942, in Phillipsburg. He was the son of the late William Minick, Sr. and Elizabeth (née Lilly) Minick.
William graduated from Phillipsburg Catholic High School and Centenary University. William joined the United States Air Force in 1960, he achieved the rank of Senior Airman (E-4) before he was honorably discharged in 1964. After returning from the Air Force, Bill would become a NJ State Trooper, where he would have a 12-year career, earning the rank of Detective Second Class. Upon leaving the State Police, Bill would have a lengthy career with Verizon/Bell Atlantic as Manager of Corporate Security. After his retirement, Bill volunteered at the Hunterdon Medical Center Cancer Center, himself a cancer survivor.
Bill married the love of his life Carol (nee Biel) Minick on April 20th, 1968. Together they raised 2 children, son William J. Minick, III and daughter Bonnie. Bill and Carol lived for over 50 years together in the home they built on Berk Lane, in Lebanon Township. Like most fathers, William was active in his children’s lives. He coached them in various sports in Lebanon Township, including Rec baseball and softball.
Throughout his life, William really enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, be it attending sporting events, playing racquetball and softball, fishing, playing cards, dining out, traveling, and more. He was a big Notre Dame Football fan, and made multiple trips to South Bend to see the team play with his friends and family.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Carol J. Minick; son, William J. Minick III and his wife Jessica Minick; daughter, Bonnie O. Beneszewski; grandchildren, Mitchell Beneszewski, Aslan Beneszewski, Hannah Minick and Will Minick. William is predeceased by his parents, William J. Minick, Sr. and Elizabeth Minick and his sister, Barbara Fritz.
Memorial Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, Aug 11th, from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home , located at 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ 08801.
