Obituary of Richard L. Billings
Richard “Dick” Billings, 85, of Hampton, NJ passed away peacefully on July 26th. Born and raised in Peninsula, OH, Dick relocated to Hunterdon County in the early 1960’s to start a family with the love of his life Doris.
Dick, a lifelong Mason in the bricklayer’s union, was regarded in his business as one of the best. As a matter of fact he was one of the best in all that he did. Dick was an excellent hunter and fisherman. He and his wife traveled around the world on numerous excursions for big fish and big game. Dick was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed sharing his love of fishing with both experienced anglers as well as novices. While he fished many rivers, Anglers Anonymous in Long Valley remained his favorite destination for both fishing and friendship.
Fitness was another passion of Dick’s. Competing and winning in bodybuilding competitions and being a staple of Gibsons Gym in Washington, NJ. Later in life, Dick took to woodworking, constructing and crafting beautiful pieces of carpentry anywhere from bed frames and tables to wine racks and cutting boards that he would graciously give to anyone who wanted one. His work was always exquisite.
By far, what Dick was best at was being a Husband to Doris for 63 years, a Father to his two Children Tracy and Lee, and a Grandfather to his three grandchildren Chad, Cole, and Rachel.
Dick was so prevalent in so many people’s lives and made us all better for having known him.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 10:00 AM at the Stanton Reformed Church, located at 1 Stanton Mountain Road, Lebanon NJ. Please arrive at church by 9:45AM.
