Obituary of Mary Louise Garey

Mary Louise Garey, age 77, of Lebanon Township, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 29, 2024, at home. Born June 24, 1946 in Flemington, NJ, Mary was the daughter of Esther (Maxwell) Jones and Raymond Jones.

Mary was a 1964 graduate of North Hunterdon High School. Mary married her beloved husband, Larue Garey, on May 2, 1970. They raised a beautiful family, having four children: Samuel, Susan, Patti, and Scott. When her children were young, Mary cared for several other children in her home. Later, Mary worked as a cook & counselor at Voorhees Residential Group Center in Glen Gardner, NJ, until retirement. Her job, and the people she met there, meant so much to her.

Mary was a matriarch of the family and had no filter. She was adored by everyone and known for her infectious laugh. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend. Mary loved her grandchildren, the beach, crafting, reading, goats, the Phillies, and the Rock.

Mary will be forever missed by her sons, Samuel Bush and his wife Erin, and Scott Garey; daughters, Susan Sklodowsky and her husband Paul, and Patti Hartman and her husband Stephen; grandchildren, Mary, Juli, Matthew, Christopher, Michael, Moritz, Samuel, Jessica, Jacob, Nevin, Kadin, Debra, Steven, and Jessica; sisters Geraldine Stillwell and Patricia D’Hulster; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband, Larue Garey; brothers, Leonard, Walter, and Paul Jones; sisters, Olive Todd and Myrtle Alpaugh; and granddaughter, Madison Bush.

A celebration of life is being planned for Mary and Larue Garey in June or July.
