Mark Metz

Obituary of Mark Frederick Metz

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Mark Frederick Metz of Pattenburg, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024 surrounded by loved ones after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Mark was born on April 15, 1951 in Newark, NJ to Dorothy and Daniel Metz. He attended Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School and went on to attend Texas Christian University to pursue a commercial arts degree. While he did not finish his program, the arts continued to be an important part of his life. Mark was a proud union member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association Local 25. He was also a longtime firefighter at the Pattenburg Volunteer Fire Company.

Quick witted, humorous, and always engaging, Mark loved to quote movies, share and discuss books, beat opponents at ping pong, and tell hilarious stories. Mark could often be found riding his motorcycle on beautiful backroads, working on hot rods, playing golf, feeding and watching birds, being a super hands-on grandfather (AKA GP), and spending time with beloved family, friends, and pets.

Mark is survived by his wife, JoAnne Metz (nee Cancellate); three loving daughters: Maggie Cooke (Dutch Cooke); Meg Metz, and Melissa Metz (Pierce Harmon); grandchildren (Quinn and Beatrice); and siblings Danette (the late David), Luke (the late Charlotte), John (Diane), Bart, and Kurt (the late Michelle). Mark’s brother, Matt (ex-wife Carol Parin), passed away less than a week earlier. He is also survived by lots of adoring nieces and nephews, and chosen family.
