Obituary of Susan Jane Tarnoski

Susan Tarnoski, age 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Susan was born on February 24, 1948, in Plainfield, New Jersey to parents Robert and Jane Gardner.

She graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1966 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in a double major of elementary education and speech pathology, at Kean College.

After college, Susan began a successful career in speech and language education. She worked at several school districts over the years while she continued her education and earned her master’s degree in special education from Rutgers University. She spent much of her career at Delaware Township Elementary School where she eventually retired.  In 2006 she was awarded the Excellence in Education Award, and she was widely respected by her colleagues in the industry for her expertise, leadership, and dedication to mentoring young professionals.

Outside of work, Susan was a devoted wife and mother. She married her high school sweetheart, John in 1970. Together they raised two wonderful children, Scott and Craig. She never missed a sports game or school event, always supporting her children's and grandchildren’s passions and activities with enthusiasm.

Susan will be remembered for her kindness, ability to create the best Halloween costumes, sharp intellect, and unwavering commitment to her family. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John; children, Scott (Laurie Fowler) and Craig (Stacy Tarnoski), Grandchildren, Hailey Tarnoski, Carly Tarnoski (fiancé, James Morra Jr.), Andrew Tarnoski, Matthew Tarnoski, Parker Broms, and Reiley Broms. Susan is also survived by many lifelong friends who she always held near and dear to her heart.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, Robert, and Jane, as well as her brother, Robbie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, November 3rd at 11:00am at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, located at 2 Whitebridge Road, Pittstown NJ, 08867. Friends and relatives will be received from 10:00am until the start of the mass at 11:00am. All services will be held directly at church.
