Obituary of Lorraine Schumann

Lorraine (nee Hunchak) Schumann, age 84, of Pittstown, NJ, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Flemington, NJ. Born November 3, 1938, at Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, NJ,, she was the daughter of the late Loretta (nee Fisher) and Joseph Hunchak.

Lorraine was a 1956 graduate of Snyder High School in Jersey City, NJ.  On June 11, 1960, Lorraine married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Clifford Schumann. Together they raised five children: Ilene, Becky, Amy, Jon, and Mark. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, whom she took great joy in.

At the age of 50, Lorraine went back to school and earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s equivalent in early childhood education. She went on to work as a first-grade teacher in Kingwood Township, NJ. She served as inspiration to others to pursue their dreams no matter their age and to always continue learning.

Lorraine enjoyed traveling the world, Broadway shows, cooking and entertaining, welcoming all into her home and heart.  Most of all, Lorraine loved spending as much time as she could with her precious family.

Lorraine will be forever missed by her loving husband of 63 years, Clifford; brothers, Joseph and Ronald; sisters-in-law, Cheryl and Nina; daughters, Ilene, Becky, and Amy; sons, Jon and Mark; son-in-law, Curtis; daughter-in-law, Deanna; grandchildren, Zachary and his wife Erin, Carolyn and her husband Danny, Joseph and his wife Nancy, Staci, Tyler, Jordan, Spencer, Jeremy, Jake, Bronson, Natalie, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Finnegan, Jameson, Audrey, Saige, and Ashton.

Lorraine is predeceased by her parents, Loretta and Joseph Hunchak.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the 5 South nurses at Hunterdon Medical Center.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service with Lorraine’s family on Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Martin Funeral Home, located at 1761 Rt. 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2 White Bridge Rd., Pittstown, NJ 08867. Committal will take place directly after mass at Immaculate Conception Mausoleum, 316 Old Allerton Rd, Annandale, NJ 08801.
