Obituary of Adam Chou
Adam Chou passed away on May 16th, 2023 at Hunterdon Medical Center.
Born in Tianjin, China in 1927, Adam decided at age 15 to join the Chinese Youth Corps during World War II. He journeyed, by foot, boat, and train, from Shanghai to the wartime capital in Chongqing, a trip of more than 1,000 miles and about 6 months. This was the beginning of many adventures in his long life. Adam came to the United States in 1946 to study, eventually receiving his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. On the way, he enjoyed many amazing adventures, including riding a horse from New York to Vermont, motorcycling up the Eastern seaboard to Maine, and selling Bibles in the deep South. Eventually, his career took him to Texas, where he met Lucinda Neily of Maine, married, and started a family. The family, now with Jennifer and Joshua, moved to Readington, NJ in 1972 and have lived here ever since.
Adam retired from Mobil Oil Corporation in 1993, but did not stop his adventures. His retirement activities included exploring science and art, investigating early man and neuroscience, while also learning how to carve wood and stone. He even treated aging as an adventure, researching the aging process and writing an (unpublished) book on his experience.
Adam’s final journey was peaceful and he departed surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife Lucinda of 55 years, his children Jennifer (Bradley Green) and Joshua (Rebecca Smith) and grandsons Malachi, Walker, Caleb and Kody.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests anyone who chooses might donate to UNICEF, Feeding America, or Raritan River Music in memory of Adam.
All services are being held privately in accordance with the family's wishes.
