Obituary of Charles F. Kasulanis
Charles F. Kasulanis, age 82, passed away on March 30, 2023, after a long illness. Charlie was born on August 6, 1940, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and was raised in the small town of Sugar Notch. Born to parents Charles and Catherine, Charlie attended Holy Family Church and graduated from Sugar Notch High school in 1957. He played on the school’s basketball team and was an honor roll student. In 1958, Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1962.
In 1964, Charlie married Karlee Kucharski at Holy Family Church. They resided in Parsippany, NJ where Charlie started his career at Warner Lambert in Morris Plains. For eight years, Charlie attended night school at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ and in 1973 completed his bachelor's degree in chemistry. Charlie and Karlee raised their two children, Charlie and Susie, in the town of High Bridge, NJ until Karlee’s death in 1993. As a young father, Charlie enjoyed coaching Little League baseball, long distance running, and gardening. In 1999, Charlie married Sally Grad and resided in Califon, NJ where they enjoyed traveling, biking, and spending time with his stepdaughters, Emily and Meredith. Charlie adored his grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Sophie, Lily, Olivia, Evelyn, Theo, and Arthur and cherished his time with them.
Charlie worked as a chemist for 30 years at Johnson & Johnson in Raritan, NJ until his retirement in 2004. In his retirement, he enjoyed building bird houses, rebuilding his Corvette and game night with friends. He is best known for his love of family, his faith and commitment to the Catholic Church and for being an avid golfer. Charlie was a scratch golfer who is remembered for playing just about every course on the east coast and in every season, every climate and with a crew of great friends.
Charlie is survived by his wife Sally of 23 years, his children and grandchildren and will be sorely missed. A special thank you is extended to his family and friends for their outpour of love and care during this difficult time.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 4th at 11:00 AM at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, 398 CR-513, Califon, NJ 07830. Friends and relatives may visit with the family from 10:00 am until mass begins. All services will be held directly at Saint John Neumann’s Church. Interment will be held privately by Charlie’s family.
