Bill Hopkins, 61, of Annandale, NJ, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, after a 2 year battle with cancer.
“Hop” or “Hoppy”, as his friends called him, brought joy and laughter to all who knew him. Bill is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lynn, daughters Amanda and Emma, parents Robert and Elizabeth, brother Bo and sister Bryson. His family meant the world to him and he was unendingly proud of his daughters, something he often shared in conversations. Bill lived his life with passion, always with a positive can-do attitude and he never lost his fighting spirit, even in his final days.
Bill was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but spent his school years in Mt. Lakes, NJ. After graduating from MLHS in 1979, he spent two adventurous months biking through Europe before attending Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. Bill excelled academically and made a name for himself in theatre and swimming. Among the many Cardboard Alley Players productions, his favorite stage performance was in Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor. During his senior year, Bill was captain of the swim team. He set school records in the 100 & 200 meter Breaststroke and earned two All-American status for those events.
After college, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His first post was Camp Pendleton, CA, where he met his future bride, Lynn. During his military service, Bill was Platoon Leader and Captain of Infantry. He was honorably discharged in 1986 and was recognized for his superior performance.
In his corporate career, Bill was a 35-year veteran of the Property and Casualty Insurance industry, including extensive work on the Reinsurance side of the business. He rose to the executive level and his area of expertise was widely known to be in Financial Lines. Bill truly enjoyed his work and met challenges with professionalism and determination to excel. He was a great role model to many and his sense of humor and contagious laugh will be missed among colleagues and friends.
When Bill was not working hard, he could be found on the golf course. An avid golfer, he competed in many tournaments. Bill made friends easily in his personal as well as professional life and was a friend you could always count on.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all of Bill’s extended family and friends for their continued love and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 23rd, 2023 from 3-6pm at The Hawk Pointe Club in Washington, NJ. For further information, call/text Lynn at (908) 892-8201
