Bonnie was our neighbor for virtually my whole life. She was genuinely the kindest most thoughtful woman. She always had a smile or a thoughtful book for me growing up. She always spread such happiness and was always there if we needed anything. I’m so grateful to have grown up next door and to have known her. I would like to share a memory of Bonnie that is very special to me. We were college roommates for more than two years. Our personalities could not have been more different. Where I was the serious and sober roommate Bonnie had a zest for life and laughed her way through our college years. We were waitresses in the college dining hall one night when I had the most embarrassing experience serving food at our table. Back in the day we served the meal family style. I had a plate of ham slices with raisin sauce in one hand and a bowl of mashed potatoes in the other. Not paying attention I accidentally tilted the plate of ham and raisin sauce all over the head of a student! I froze waiting for the student to explode as he tried to clean his glasses and face off.. Bonnie came to my rescue. She started joking about the situation and cleaning the mess off his head at the same time. With an ease that only God knows how she pulled it off that student never got angry with me. And he also never sat at our table again. That memory for me is classic Bonnie. She knew far before I did never to waste time on the small stuff and most of it is small stuff. Looking back on those years I can see how fortunate I was when she walked into our dorm room and said "Hi! I'm Bonnie and I'm your new roomie!" I am sure we were meant to be roommates. I introduced her to my cousin, Denny, and she ended up as my cousin-in-law for over fifty two years! Bonnie knew that every step of the journey IS the journey.
