EULOGY HONORING MICHAEL “PISCAT” CEDRO
by
KENNY MILLER, MICHAEL RAPPA and STEVE ZRAKE (speaker)
Presented August 4, 2022
Hello friends. We stand before you today to give our testimony honoring Michael Cedro. Oh my gosh, what do you say, what can one say about Michael Cedro aka Piscat aka The Wolverine.
We don’t believe in coincidence; we do believe 4 young men were brought together by Providence. Four “Jersey Boyz” starting at Ramapo College’s first year in 1971. Four “Jersey Boyz” becoming dormmates, The Family, The Boyz of 7A: Piscat (Michael Cedro), Rappa (Michael Rappa), Miller (Kenny Miller) and The Gumba (Steve Zrake). Four young men, the best of the best, forming a lifelong relationship, a lifelong bond. Through thick and thin, through the trials and tribulations of life, always there for each other, we always had each other’s back. Through the headwinds of life, job loss, divorce, loss of children and other loved ones, family issues, illnesses, accidents, scams, etc. We’ve kept the faith and fought on, never giving up, never. We are The Family, The Boyz of 7A, and Brothers always.
Piscat, you have fought your final battle and won! Leaving this life here on earth is a graduation. Entering the Life Everlasting is a Celebration! As the Bible says in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, He gave his only begotten son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
The Family, The Boyz of 7A are here together and in spirit with you. Let us all Celebrate together your amazing life. You’ve done good our Brother, we all have. We are good men and will see you again when we are called by Him. Say Hello to my brother Jim!
Piscat, you’ve lived a great life, now go live another one even better. May the Light of the Lord guide your path and may His arms welcome you into the Life Everlasting. We are comforted in knowing we will see you again. God is with you always.
Lastly, let me mention how grateful we The Boyz of 7A are to Eileen for bringing you true happiness and comforting you to the end. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Eileen.
Lovingly,
THE BOYZ OF 7A

I sent this note to Piscat for Eileen to read to him a few days prior to his passing. Thought it would be nice to share with youse. Steve "Gumba" Zrake
Dearest Piscat: July 28, 2022
So much to say and so little time. First off know that we are Brothers, all of us the original Boyz of 7A bound by our love for each other. You, Rappa, Miller and Zrake (me the Gumba), we’ve always been close from the very first introduction at Ramapo College. We were all young bucks, had the world by the brass, nothing to stop us. We all worked so damn hard all of our lives, lived good lives, took care of our own, and many others. We had the American Values our parents (The Greatest Generation) instilled in us. We’ve all done well, very well, nothing handed to us, just worked through the adverse trials and tribulations of life. We’ve had all kinds of headwinds, job loss, divorce, loss of children, family issues, illnesses, accidents, scams, etc. Yet through it all we’ve come this far, we’ve kept the faith and fought on. Never giving up, never. We are and always will be The Family, the Boyz of 7A. And you are The Wolverine!
And so, here we are over 50 years later and now this cancer shit! Piscat, I’m so so sorry you have to endure this illness. It truly sucks. Thankfully, you’ve found happiness with Eileen. We are all so very glad that she is a big part of your life. She’s good people, standing by you through thick and thin!!! It’s obvious how much you love each other.
Where do we go from here? Know that you are loved by so many, loved as a Brother by the Family, the Boyz of 7A. Also know that life on earth, in this world however imperfect it is, is only the end of one chapter, the perfect life is the next chapter in heaven with the Lord, the life everlasting. Here you will be with your family gone past, and wrapped in the arms of the Lord, comforting you. And there, in that perfect place of Heaven, God’s Heaven with the Lord we shall all someday meet again.
Piscat, my Brother, know that you are the one who taught me about great wine, great Scotch and great steak. Believe me, I indulge in all frequently (well not as much the Scotch these days). You were the one that turned me on to Porsche. Remember that Thursday night about 20 years ago, we were out with your wine group, and drank some amazing wine and a phenomenal Port. Truth to tell, we drank a lot. We drove home in your Porsche Boxster. It was late and you were zooming on the back country roads of rural New Jersey, taking me home to my parent’s house. Do you remember I asked you to slow down and said how upset my mother would be if something were to happen to me as I’m am only child, with my brother passing away just a couple of years prior to that night. I said “What if a deer runs out in front?” And you said “Oh don’t worry these Boxster’s have great brakes” then you proceeded to slam on the brakes and sure enough it stopped as if it hit a rock wall!!! And you said “See!” I was truly amazed and asked you if this Boxster performs this well, what was the difference with the Carrera? You said it “It’s faster and handles better!” Stunning to me and right then and there, I vowed to myself to someday get a Porsche of my own.
Well, fast forward about 15 years later, after spending time in the Afghanistan war zone with way to many close calls, and other choice places in the Middle East being a Military Contractor, then coming home with some medical issues, serious ones like having heart failure and other life threatening issues, I said to my wife, I don’t know what tomorrow holds in store but I’d like to buy that Porsche I’ve wanted for many years. Make a long story short, I’ve now owned my Porsche Cayenne Turbo for 7 years and will keep that sports car until I can no longer drive. It’s simply amazing and I’m loving every time I get in this precision motorcar. My one word description: Beyond. So yeah, you turned me on to Porsches too.
I cannot thank you enough for being my friend and my Brother for all these years. You’ve enriched my life in many ways. I hope I’ve returned the favor. We may not get to see each other again in this life, just know, we will for sure in the next.
I pray you keep the faith and know that in God and in your belief of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, you will have a life everlasting. I’ll see you again and hug you in Heaven!!
You’ve lived a great life my Brother, live another one even better. May His light guide your path! Remember this:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, He gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 11:25 Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believeth in Me will live even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die.”
I’ll miss you Piscat, my Brother, we all will. I’m comforted in knowing you will no longer be suffering and that I will see you again!! May God be with you always.
Lovingly,
Steve “Gumba” Zrake

I know we feel that it is too early and that you should have more time. We all wish you had more time. But I started thinking about it and realized you have been on borrowed time for almost 50 years. You could have left long ago, with any of your near death accidents, the viral meningitis, the tractor accident, the lightening or drifting out to sea. We are thankful for the extra time that you were given. You've made our worlds happier, Mike. You've helped so many people through the years and have positively impacted so many different lives -- Rudy, Paul, Debbie, Sarah and Morgan, to name just a few. The fact is, you earned your wings long ago, but you had more lives to touch. You are a good man and lived a good life and helped everyone around you.
We are thankful you met Eileen and for the happiness you experienced together before you left us. We are grateful for your life and your love. Thank you for your laugh, your spirit, your positive attitude. We love you dearly, and you will never be far from our hearts.

We thank you for your Love, and the memories we hold dear,
the world seems a smaller place, to live without you here.
We hope to see you once again, on another day, to reminisce, rejoice, and share in Montrachet.
You may have left our table, far too soon we say, but will remain in our hearts, forever here to stay.

My most heartfelt condolences to Mike's entire extended family. I met Mike on a wine trip to Spain in 2017 and again in 2018. We quickly became friends and spent most of the trips together riding the tour bus, drinking wine at the wineries and hanging out at night when the long days were over. He seemed to have unending knowledge on any subject you could bring up and was always willing to talk about whatever. No one who was there will ever forget when he fixed the bus when it broke down. We kept in touch with each other from time to time with a quick text or phone call just to say hi and check up on one another. Godspeed Mike. You will be missed by all.

Michael Cedro better known as Piscataway in my household was a friend of my dad (Ken Miller) since college days at Ramapo College. I remember being a little girl visiting him with my dad just amazed that he had horses at his house. He was always so kind and thoughtful and had such a great sense of humor. I remember joking recently with him when he called my dad's phone and I answered pretending he had the wrong number. The sound of confusion had my entire family laughing, his reply was Kate you got me good. It was that banter that my father and Piscataway always had with each other. The bond I witnessed between them is priceless. The world has lost a true gem. God bless the Cedro family during there time of bereavement. I'm happy I made it known to him recently the love me and my daughter have for him.

Most of you know Michael as “Piscataway” but I know him as “Chicken Michael”. This was his name because obviously he had chickens and to a 6 year old kid that’s the coolest thing in the world. But now that I’m older I see he was even cooler than I thought. He was a business owner, an amazing cook and an amazing friend. He brought joy to every life he touched. I knew him as my grandpas (Ken Miller) confidant, partner in crime and side kick. May he rest peacefully and my condolences to the Cedro family. I will keep you all dear to my heart and in my prayers.

Mike was one of the finest guys you could ever hope to meet. Although he had more tragedies in his life than most, he remained a kind, warm-hearted friend until his passing.
My fondest memories of Mike were centered around the wine club. After he persuaded Jean Trimbach, the Alsace Riesling producer to fly over from France and give us a talk on his winery, (along with free samples), I was forever hooked on Rieslings. When Karen and I hosted the 4th July celebration at our place in Piscataway, Mike not only had 80 Maine Lobsters flown in, but was the key chef for the occasion. The Christmas Dinners he organized were always gastronomic treats, and on my 65th he very kindly presented me with a bottle of Fonseca Vintage1966 Port which I still treasure.
Karen and I send our sincere condolences to Eileen and the Family.
Mike, you will be sorely missed.

This photo sums up my 50 year friendship with Michael. We first met at Ramapo College in 1971. There his nickname was “Piscataway” ! We were always communicating for the whole 50 years , I shared his numerous mishaps and tragedies. Encouraging his triumphs and constantly sharing “infantile” humor and frequently laughing to the point of tears .
He was a true renaissance man . A lover of pets , chicken farmer ,gardener , long distance backpacker ,when younger , piano player, salt water fisherman , always a biologist and observer of nature. That’s a short list . As he aged ,he was ever sharpening his expertise and knowledge of wines .
Meeting Eileen was one of the best moments of his life. He told me she gave him the most uncritical ,support, love , and understanding that he had ever known . Thank God for this gift ! I will miss him very much . A light has gone out ! Ken Miller

To the Cedro family and friends, our deepest condolences. We don't know when it happened - but over time, he and you all became part of our family. As families, we have shared lifelong friendships filled with many adventures, ridiculous situations, and life's ups, downs, celebrations and heartbreaks.
Mike is unique in so many ways. Mike is a good man, a man of goodwill. He enjoyed people, the sound of laughter (he has a great laugh), and sharing life with those around him. Mike dealt with more negatives and setbacks than most will know - and did so without becoming negative -- a rare thing he showed and taught us through his example.
Mike knew he is thought of and loved and he and you all will always be part of us.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to you all during this difficult time.
Love,
The Lockwood Family

Michael was a friend to all. He had so many talents, but his greatest was his love for life, family, and friends. These pictures show the fun loving guy he was. Maybe he's dancing in heaven with Zac again.
Eileen, I want to reiterate how grateful I am to you for showing Michael what true love really is. You brought him the joy of love he had waited for. He left this earth with a completely full heart thanks to you.
