Obituary of Eleanor C. Barton

Eleanor C. BartonEleanor C. Barton, 99, died at The Meadows at East Mountain in Rutland, VT on Friday, August 14, 2009. She was born April 8, 1910, in Jersey City, NJ, daughter of Frances C. and Bennett S. Case. She is survived by her daughter Lois Barton Jackson and her husband Roy of Brandon, VT; a granddaughter Julia Child and her husband Chris of Starksboro, VT; and her great-grandchildren Nathaniel and Ryan Creed both living in Burlington, VT. Mrs. Barton was a resident of Annandale, NJ for 90 years before moving to VT to be with her daughter. She received her early education in Clinton Township public schools, was graduated from Clinton High School, and in 1931 was graduated from Beaver College in Glenside, PA. She had taught in Clinton Township schools during the 30s and served a time as principal.She married Harold Barton of Irvington, NJ in 1936. Mr. Barton died in 1981.After her marriage she substituted in county schools and raised her daughter before returning to full time teaching at Spruce Run School until her retirement in 1967.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 29 at 2 PM at the Annandale Reformed Church in Annandale, NJ - (#908-735-7218) where she was a lifelong member.
