Dear Daddy, First Birthday away from home… You’d be eighty-three today. It’s hard to believe that you’re not here to get your birthday present or hear your birthday song. But in my heart and memories is where you now belong. When I was little you read to me. The laughter and love we shared. When you played with me and my toys I knew how much you cared. Bob was well-read and knowledgeable on a great variety of subjects. He and I were colleagues at High Bridge High School. He invited me every week for a home-cooked meal at his house, where I met his wife Vicky and his daughter Diana. I was happy to have had his daughter Diana in one of my English classes, and she was always at home when I visited her father and, I think, listened to our long conversations after the meal. I was a friend of Bob for many years and was enriched by his friendship.
