Obituary of Milton J. Baker

Milton J. Baker, age 94, of Lebanon Twp., New Jersey died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Country Arch Care Center in Union Twp., NJ. He was born June 15, 1914 in Niagara Falls, NY the son of the late John J. and the late Harriet Alice (nee Dickinson) Baker. Mr. Baker was a Mechanical Engineer who had a prosperous and varied career. He specialized in heating, ventilating and air-conditioning design. Known today as climate control. Most notably, he worked for the New York Ship Building Company in Camden, NJ where he worked on the famous ship named The Savannah. He then was employed by Gibbs & Cox, Inc., Navel Architects & Engineers and Navel Architect, George Sharp (both in New York City) where during the peak of World War II production he worked on the Victory Ship, the S.S. Washington, Liberty Ships, Destroyers & Seaplane Tenders as well as some post War vessels. Later, Milton was employed by Syska & Hennessy, Inc., Consulting Engineers where he engineered & designed the heating & cooling systems of the United Nations Building in New York City. Lastly, Mr. Baker was employed by Wigton Abbott Corp. in Plainfield, NJ where he designed heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems for many notable research laboratories and industrial plants. He graduated Pitman High School in Pitman, NJ in 1933 and then Syracuse University in 1937 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Milton resided in Lebanon Twp., NJ for the past 40 years and previous to that, he lived in Wenonah, NJ, Staten Island, NY & Rahway, NJ. He enjoyed Hay Farming, Deep Sea Fishing, Canoeing, Sailing and Horseback Riding. Survivors include; his Daughters: Mary Dillinger & Her Husband, Richard H. of Lebanon Twp., NJ and Barbara Happer & Her Husband: William of Princeton, NJ, his Grandchildren: Jim Happer & His Wife, Preeti of Shanghai, China, Gladys Happer-Uzun & Her Husband, Guven of Los Angeles, Calf., Eric Dillinger & His Wife, Colette of Gilbert, Az and Peter Dillinger of Glen Gardner, NJ and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his Beloved Wife: Eleanor in 1996 and pre-deceased by his Grandson: Richard H. Dillinger III in 1991. Visiting Hours will be on Saturday, September 6th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. There will be a Funeral Service on Saturday, September 6th at 12:00 pm also at the Funeral Home. The Interment will take place at the Spruce Run Cemetery, West Hill Road in Lebanon Twp., NJ.
