Robert Nesius

Obituary of Robert Charles Nesius

Robert Charles Nesius, 74, of Califon, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 27, 2020, in his home.

Bob was born in Richmond, VA, on Sept. 10, 1945. He went to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend (Notre Dame), IN, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and his Master’s degrees. Early in his career he designed cars for Ford Motor Company. He held a number of careers before founding his software design company Computer Solutions. Bob was a pioneer in the computer field and a self-taught programmer. Over the years he designed software for many companies in the tri-state area and made  many lifelong friends in the process.

In his free time, he sought other outlets for his creativity. He was actively involved in many community theater groups, including Oldwick Community Players and Show Kids Invitational Theater. He was a talented playwright and lyricist who wrote and sold several plays. A Christmas Carol: The Musical, which he wrote in partnership with Tom Mazur, was probably his favorite project.

He was a loving and devoted father to his two daughters, Elizabeth (Betsy) and Catherine (Callie). Owning his own business allowed him to be a large presence in their lives as they grew up, and he shared his passion for the theater and art with both daughters. His elder daughter is a poet like her father, and his younger daughter inherited his talent for art and design and applied it to her profession as a photographer.

Bob was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2012, and he fought a brave battle for 8 years. While he was sick, he found solace in returning to his creative passions of designing cars and writing plays and poetry as well as inventing and building a number of labor-saving devices for everyday tasks. He enjoyed sharing the fruits of these labors with friends and family.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Mary Nesius and his wife of forty-nine years and six months Mary Noelke Nesius. He is survived by his sister Catherine and his two daughters, Elizabeth and Catherine.
