Obituary of Margaret A Groah
Margaret A. Groah (nee Beacom), age 84, of Alexandria Township, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 20, 2020. Born on October 4, 1936, in Mount Vernon, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Miriam (nee Mills) Beacom.
Margaret, known to all as Peggy, spent her childhood years living in Massapequa, NY. She later moved to Tewksbury, NJ and then settlingat Whiffletree Farm in Pittstown, NJ in Hunterdon County where she has lived for the past 45 years with her beloved late husband, William S. Groah. Together they had two children, Jeff and Daniel.
Peggy was a proud graduate of Trenton State College where she earned a BA in Communication and Theater. In addition to raising a family and running the farm Peggy held many assorted jobs through the years. She worked at Life Magazine before starting a family. She schooled horses at the Essex Hunt Club, worked at a bridle shop, delivered mail as a rural mail carrier with the Post Office and worked at Foster Wheeler before retirement.
Peggy’s first love was horses. She was the founding leader of the Centaurs 4-H Horse Cluband later held the position of Secretary of the NJEquine Advisory Board. Peggy enjoyed spending time outdoors, trail riding, hiking, kayaking, cycling and skiing. Peggy & Bill were active members of the Hunterdon County Horse and Pony Association, the Sitzmark Ski Club and the Hunterdon Hiking Club. She was also acertified Master Gardener.
Peggy is survived by her loving son, Jeff Groah and his wife Christal Yost of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Sarah Groah and Forrest Morton; and brother, William Beacom and his wife Joyce.
She is predeceased by her parents, William and Miriam Beacom; husband, William S. Groah; son, Daniel Groah; brother, Robert Beacom; and sister, Joan Guizzetti.
