Dear Maggie, Buddy, Ed and Jay,
So very sorry about the passing of your dear Mom. Unfortunately, my visits with her had not been as frequent as I would've liked, but when I did stop by, it was always uplifting and enjoyable. The flowers displayed throughout her apartment were absolutely amazing......she'd never lost her 'green thumb!'
Way back in the 1950's and 60's (before some of you were even around) and also in the later years, I'd always enjoy my visits to your Mom's and Dad's place in Pittstown.(As you might know, their house was the one in which I'd lived the first six years of my life with my family, before moving to Belvidere.....it was always a special place for me) I remember that my visits were always filled happiness, a lot of activity, and laughter. Most importantly, the house was filled with warmth and love. I never went hungry there either, as your Mom always had some goodies on hand. In addition to the 'over-the-top' chocolate chip cookies you'd mentioned, I remember happily consuming some other favorites like various Christmas cookies, as well as Hungarian 'staples', such as poppy seed and nut roll. Absolutely delicious and she'd always send some home with us to enjoy later.
Your Mom was always energetic and clearly interested in others and what was going on in their lives. She'd always take the time to reach out and inform others of any important news, good or bad.....you could always count on her. Her unconditional love of family and the pride she had in all of her children and grandchildren was obvious. She always knew what was going on in each of their lives and had a twinkle in her eye when she spoke of them.
I think what I'll remember the most about your Mom is her hugs. The Haholas were always a 'hugging family' to begin with, but no one hugged better than Aunt Joanie. I'll miss that so much.
I want to again express Anita's and my deepest sympathy to all of you and your families. Your Mom (and Dad) will forever be remembered in our hearts for their generosity, the happiness and laughter they brought to others, and for their love of family. I never had an aunt and uncle that were more giving.
As your Mom and Dad (my Aunt Joanie and Uncle Elmer) are in Heaven and together again with family members who'd gone before them, we can be sure they're providing spirited conversation, laughter and love to all. May you find much needed comfort in this.
Thinking of you, with love and prayers,
Dan (and Anita)
