Obituary of Emma Winbinger
Emma Winbinger, age 95, of Hampton, NJ passed away Sunday, October 8, 2006 at Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township.
Mrs. Winbinger was born August 13, 1911 in Narka, Kansas. She was the 6th child of the late Charles Frank and the late Mary (Klima) Strnad.
She married her husband Joseph Elmer Winbinger in 1934. The family lived on a farm in Cuba, Kansas until 1937 when they moved to Oregon. During WWII Emma and Joe both worked as riveters at the Portland shipyards building Liberty ships. Following the war they moved to a small farm in Boring, Oregon, where they raised strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. From 1958-1970, Emma worked at a Greshman, Oregon bakery. In 1973 they moved to NJ to live with their daughter in Hampton. Mrs. Winbinger was a homemaker, an avid gardener, a seamstress and quilter.
She is survived by her beloved daughter: Shirley Claudette Winbinger Phinney and Her Husband, James of Hampton, NJ; Her loving granddaughter: Carrie McCarthy and husband Michael of Manly, New Zealand. Her loving Grandson: Derrell W. Phinney of Hampton, NJ; Her loving Grandson: Derrell W. Phinney of Hampton, NJ; Her dear Great-grandchildren: Jon Michael Lee McCarthy, Kayla Anne McCarthy and Sara Emily McCarthy ,all of Manly, New Zealand. Her nieces and nephew: Mary Ann Whites of Columbus, MO and Naomi Tacha of Jennings, KS ; Raymond and Loren Mach of Belleville.
She was pre-deceased by her Husband: Joseph Elmer Winbinger; Her siblings: Mary (Strnad) Kusy, Joseph W. Strnad, Caroline Frances Strnad Mach, Helen (Strnad) Mach, Jennie Strnad, and Albina Strnad Havel.
All services were conducted privately by the family.
