Obituary of Florence Colwell

Florence Colwell, age 83, of Flemington, (Raritan Township) died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ Mrs. Colwell was born May 21, 1922 at Philadelphia, PA. ,the daughter of the late James and the late Ellen (Smith) Kershaw. She lived in New York City, NY then married and moved to Bergen County, NJ. Living in Ridgewood, Wyckoff and Oakland. A fter retiring in 1974 , her and her husband Burton moved to Florida, returning to NJ in 1988. Mrs. Colwell, along with her husband Burton, built, owned and operated Valley Lanes Bowling Alley in Oakland from 1962-1974. They retired in 1974 Mrs. Colwell was active in the Brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts in the Bergen County Area. She was an avid gardener and was an accomplished seamstress. She also loved children and animals. Pre-deceased by her husband Burton who passed away in 1989, She is survived by Her 4 children: Lawrence Colwell of Seattle, Washington Gail Colwell of Calabash, NC Judy Van Der Sluys of Lebanon, NJ Kenton Colwell of Flemington, NJ Her 2 Granchildren: Eric Van Der Sluys and Cynthia Patkochis She also had 3 Great Grandchildren Calling hours will be Sunday, November 20th from 1:30pm-3:30pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. A Catholic Blessing will follow the visitation and will begin at 3:30pm at the Funeral Home. Interment will be private
