Obituary of Colin H. Jones
Colin H. Jones, age 76, of Clinton Twp., NJ died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at home. Mr. Jones was born October 22, 1937 in Plymouth, England. He was the son of the late Harold and Phyllis (Evans) Jones.
Colin lived and worked in New York City for many years, and had a weekend house in Clinton Twp., NJ, to which he moved permanently some 8 years ago. He was President of Routledge USA, the international publishing house, and Director of New York University Press, both in New York City.
He served in the Royal Air Force as a Russian translator in Berlin, and was fluent in Russian, French and German, and received his BA and Master's degrees from Cambridge University in England. Colin came to the US for a vacation after graduation, and liked it so much that he never went back!
He had a life-long interest History and Political Science which influenced his views and reading -with special focus on British, European, and Russian history and society. After retiring from Routledge, he spent several years teaching and taking courses at the Institute for Retired Professionals at The New School University where, among other classes, he taught The Great Books Program from the University of Chicago.
Colin is survived by his dear wife: Sally Dougan, Chief Marketing Officer of Bert Davis Executive Search in NYC, as well as cherished friends and protégés.
There will be a gathering on Thursday, March 6th from 4-6:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. A memorial service will be held in the Spring in New York City. The interment will be held privately, at the convenience of the family.
