James’s family: I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through a similar situation and I was very helped by the hope that I found in the Bible in John 5:28, which says, "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I am sending you a link with more information on this hope.

My deepest sympathy to the entire family for your loss. As the days continue to pass, I hope the entire family find comfort and support in the people that surround you and the wonderful memories you carry in your mind and in your heart. May you find comfort in your precious memories and love shared. May the words of 1 Peter 5:7 “ while you throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you” bring the entire family comfort and strength. Please accept my sincere condolences.

We are still having a hard time grasping that we had to say Goodbye to such a nice guy so soon. Jim was so easy to talk to and made everyone around him comfortable. He cared so much for his family. He loved to watch his girls participate in all the activities they were involved in, especially basketball. We had the good fortune to have our son and Farrah on the same team for a couple of years. I will never forget that I could not make it to one of their games this past winter. I knew he would be there. I said please keep me posted on how it is going. Well, like 20 video text messages later, I think I got to watch the whole game through Jim’s messages to me. He just so loved to watch his girl’s play basketball. My heart goes out to Jenny and the girls. No words can truly comfort them with this great loss that they are experiencing, but I hope they can cherish the happy memories that they made because I know they made many. Love, Sheri, Mike, Evan and Leah Estrella

My brother Mark and I had the good fortune of growing up with Jimmy and his brother Jeff. Jim and I were the same age and Jeff was a few years older and closer to my brother in age so needless to say we were all fast friends. The 1970's and 80's in suburban NJ was special time. We spent endless days with sticks and slingshots exploring the wilds of places with names like "the cliffs, automatic, long driveway, Shetland bat house, and the center". Both Jimmy and Jeff had a healthy sense of humor and an insatiable curiosity which led to many unforgettable adventures. Jimmy had this way of accenting words to bring out the absurdity in them that always cracked us up. The Austin boys had natural athletic ability as well as lethal aim with a snowball. They could knock the winter hat off of your head while you were retreating at full speed. When it came to anything with two wheels, the brothers were pure Fury. Jimmy once broke his bicycle in half from the sheer force from landing one of his patented monster jumps off of a wooden ramp. Both brothers were fast and fearless on dirt bikes.
We regularly raided the Austin cookie jar for tasty treats, tore through their house and bugged sister Eileen until she let us listen to her cool records. Jimmy was the best friend a kid could have had and....for a short time.....we owned that neighborhood!
God speed my old friend.

Jim Austin was the kindest, most generous, and greatest person I have ever met. He loved his family more than anything in the world. Jim was my best friend and not a day will go by without me thinking of him. About Jim, Jim was the greatest spinnerbait fisherman in the world. Outside of spending time with his wife and daughters, fishing at Upper Chateaugay Lake, Lake Champlain, and Spruce Run Reservoir were his favorite things to do. Jim also knew every line of every Seinfeld episode and could have an entire conversation with you quoting Seinfeld. Jim would only drink beer that required driving hundreds of miles, walking up at 4 a.m., and standing in line all day to buy. Jim like Babe Ruth, famously called the shot, when on Dillenbeck Bay on Lake Champlain he pointed his fishing rod toward the spot and caught a bass. I will miss him.

It’s rare in life to become so close to a person in such a short amount of time. We shared a lot of good times in the past year... sparked by the love of craft beer but fueled by a man who truly recognized the importance of spending time with family and friends. I will never forget the times around your fire pit and at my barn. Your friendship will always be remembered and appreciated. - Adam
